Fire Prevention Week in October is an exciting time for first grade students in the area. Through the sponsorship of Rotary Club of The Villages Noon, each first grader at Fruitland Park Elementary, Wildwood Elementary, and The Villages Lady Lake Elementary, is presented with a personalized book, which has their name included throughout the story. Their faces light up when they see their name as the lead character in the book. Club volunteers then read “My Trip to the Fire Station” together with the students. At the conclusion of the reading, fire safety practices are reviewed. Each student is then encouraged to take the book home to read with their family. When possible, the local fire station sends the fire trucks to the school for additional excitement.
